Amalfi Coast

Slide thumbnail

“A dream place that doesn’t seem real”
(Alberto Moravia)

A journey or just a one-day excursion in this stretch of Campania coastline, which connects Positano to Vietri, leaves you literally astounded. You can lose yourself in the wonders of these idyllic places. On one side are the limestone cliffs covered with lush Mediterranean vegetation, with lemon trees in their typical cultivation in terraces, and dotted with white fishing villages. On the other you can see the endless, deep blue and crystalline sea that, over the centuries, has been eroding the coastline, carving astounding caves, coves, inlets, and fjords. You can smell all the different scents around this place: pine trees, lemons, and the sea. You can hear the sound of waves lapping against the coast as well as long uncontaminated stretches of tranquillity and peacefulness. Your palate will enjoy a very old gastronomic tradition: the colatura di alici from Cetara (an Italian fish sauce made from anchovies), the wines from Ravello, and lemon based dishes. The Sfusato amalfitano, the PGI Amalfi Coast lemons, is used in starters as well as in desserts. Over the centuries the Amalfi Coast has been attracting illustrious travellers and movie stars. Jacqueline Kennedy used to walk barefoot in Positano, a romantic town, famous for its fashion, lace dresses, and ultra-flat sandals that brightly colour its narrow alleys. Roberto Rossellini and Anna Magnani shot some of their most popular movies there. They, along with Sophia Loren, each owned some of the most beautiful villas in the Amalfi Coast. Amalfi is among the most important places on the coast, which used to be the oldest Italian maritime republic, with a valuable architectural and historical-artistic heritage, and Vietri, town of ancient ceramic tradition. In short, an experience which can’t be missed. A sensory journey which can be experienced either overland or by travelling along the coastline, enjoying one of the most valued historical and artistic sites in the world, added to the World Heritage List as one of the Italian’s most valued historical and artistic sites in 1997 by UNESCO.
